The Government Engineering College, Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram, was founded by the Government of Kerala, India, in August 1999. The institution is located in Barton Hill, which is two kilometres from the city centre in Trivandrum. The institute has five major departments: Electronics and Communication, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Civil Engineering.
ISTE students' chapter of GEC Barton Hill started functioning in the academic year 2013-2014. The chapter was officially inaugurated on September 11th, 2013 by Dr.V.Radhakrishnan, Former Dean, IIT Madras. Dr. N.R.Rajesh (Assistant Professor , Mechanical Engineering) is the present faculty secretary. Prof. Satheeesh Kumar S (Assistant Professor , Mechanical Engineering) is the faculty advisor to the students' chapter. Dr.B.Anil (Principal GEC Barton Hill and Chairman, ISTE Kerala Section ) assumed office as the chapter President on 26th May, 2014.
Within a short span of time after its establishment the chapter redefined the frontiers of technical education within the campus. At present, the chapter is the largest student organization within the campus with a strength of more than 340 members. The chapter is actively involved in administrative/academic matters as well as in students' technical programmes. the chapter publishes a bi monthly campus newsletter " The Platform".
